And, here’s about Karen Purves

With 30 years marketing experience, 20 of which in the small business environment, Karen brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and understanding to the business owner.

Her marketing career started with Tate & Lyle before moving to the Brewers, Courage. Having a grounding in fast moving food items gave Karen an understanding in developing brand awareness, a brand following and how sales promotions can bring forward sales.

Karen moved from food to IT working with Zellweger, a privately owned Swiss company and then British Telecom (BT). It was a jump and seems even more so now! The move to IT opened up so many opportunities. It showed that you have to move fast in technology – faster than food! At the time, BT was an innovative company that invested in developing new technology. Being in the new ventures area within BT, Karen was exposed to the fore-runners of broadband, the web and ICT.

Small Business is Different!

Karen then spent much of the past 20 years working within the small business environment. Supporting small business is not just about the budgets, it is also about the sort of campaigns, the reach and the objectives of the business owners. Small business marketing can be more personal – something, large firms struggle to deliver.

Networking Model

In the mid-nineties, Karen developed a networking model for small business to grow their business through alliances and sales. This still operates and comes into its own with the emerging power of marketing through social media.  She successfully created three businesses from scratch resulting in one sold that the other two morphed into other activities.

Apart from the experience, Karen also has:

  • Diploma in Marketing
  • Post Graduate Certificate Higher Education in Teaching
  • First Degree in Mathematics

She is committed to continual professional development with vocational courses including various internet marketing programmes that have been available over the past three years.
